This unit provides an introduction to geographic information systems (GIS) including structure, function and use with a focus on data capture, quality and management in a geological context. It also comprises plane and geodetic surveying incorporating surveying for open cut and underground mines. Survey instruments and the use of computer software to process data are included together with the interpretation of mine maps. -- Course Website
